Electrochemical 1,2-Diarylation of Alkenes Enabled by Direct Dual C-H Functionalizations of Electron-Rich Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Jing-Hao Qin et al.

Summary: This study describes a cobalt-promoted electrochemical method for 1,2-diarylation of alkenes with electron-rich aromatic hydrocarbons, producing polyaryl-functionalized alkanes. Utilizing a radical relay strategy, the chemoselectivity is shifted to dehydrogenative [2+2+2] cycloaddition via 1,2-diarylation by using a graphite rod cathode, resulting in the formation of complex 11,12-dihydroindolo[2,3-a]carbazoles.

Light-Promoted C-N Coupling of Aryl Halides with Nitroarenes

Gang Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a photochemical C-N coupling of aryl halides with nitroarenes for the first time, catalyzed by a Ni-II complex in the absence of any external photosensitizer. The method provides a step-economic extension to the widely used Buchwald-Hartwig C-N coupling reaction and tolerates coupling partners with steric-congestion and functional groups sensitive to bases and nucleophiles. Mechanistic studies suggest the reaction proceeds via the addition of an aryl radical, generated from a Ni-I/Ni-III cycle, to a nitrosoarene intermediate.

Electrochemical Radical Silyl-Oxygenation of Activated Alkenes

Jie Ke et al.

Summary: An efficient electrochemical radical silyl-oxygenation method has been demonstrated for electron-deficient alkenes, providing access to a variety of highly functionalized silicon-containing molecules. The process shows good yields, excellent chemo- and regio-selectivity, and wide substrate scope with high functional-group tolerance, without the need for transition metal catalysts or chemical oxidants. The ability to generate silyl radicals through electrochemical Si-H activation offers new opportunities for the sustainable and green synthesis of valuable organosilicon compounds.

Huamin Wang et al.

Summary: A highly selective, environmentally friendly, and scalable electrochemical protocol for constructing alpha-acyloxy sulfides has been developed, utilizing the synergistic effect of self-assembly-induced C(sp(3))-H/O-H cross-coupling. This protocol demonstrates broad substrate scope, high regioselectivity, gram-scale synthesis, construction of complex molecules, and applicability to various nucleophiles. The pivotal role of substrate self-assembly has been confirmed through soft X-ray absorption technique and control experiments, contributing to the excellent compatibility and precise regioselectivity control in the electrochemical protocol.

Summary: An electrooxidative direct difunctionalization of internal alkynes with sulfonyl hydrazides has been developed for the construction of sulfonated enethers. This method does not require metal catalysts or stoichiometric amount of oxidants, and only yields molecular nitrogen and hydrogen as byproducts, providing a simple and green approach. The protocol can be efficiently scaled up, and the follow-up procedures of the corresponding functionalized alkenes demonstrate the practicality of the electrochemical synthesis.
