Novel in-situ electroflotation driven by hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with polypyrrole (PPy)-Ni-modified fabric membrane for efficient oil/water separation

Renjie Li et al.

Summary: A new conception/strategy of in-situ electroflotation driven by hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) combined with a polypyrrole (PPy)-Ni-modified fabric membrane was proposed for efficient oil/water separation. The Ni-decorated fabric membrane exhibited superhydrophilicity, underwater superoleophobicity and excellent electrical conductivity, serving as cathode for HER. The optimized electroflotation process efficiently separated oil/water emulsion with high permeation flux and oil rejection, showing strong application significance in treating oily wastewater.

Effects of membrane filter material and pore size on turbidity and hazardous element concentrations in soil batch leaching tests

Masayuki Someya et al.

Summary: Soil batch leaching tests worldwide aim to quantify the leaching of hazardous substances from contaminated soil. Recent studies show that soil colloidal particles with small diameters may still persist in the filtrate even after filtration through a 0.45-μm membrane filter, potentially affecting the concentration of arsenic or lead. The study evaluated the effects of 0.45- or 0.4-μm MF materials on filtrate turbidity and leaching concentrations of inorganic hazardous elements, finding that the MF material significantly influences the removal rate of colloidal arsenic or lead and thus impacts the results of leaching tests.

In situ biomineralization-constructed superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic PVDF-TiO2 membranes for superior antifouling separation of oil-in-water emulsions

Wei Deng et al.

Summary: The in situ biomineralization method was used to fabricate PVDF-TiO2 membranes with superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic properties, which showed excellent antifouling performance and high rejection of oil during crossflow filtration of oil-in-water emulsions. The superior performance of the membrane was attributed to the durable and super-wetting TiO2 coatings, as well as the relatively smooth surface structure that prevented oil trapping.
