Facile preparation of oxygen-rich porous polymer microspheres from lignin-derived phenols for selective CO2 adsorption and iodine vapor capture

Lishu Shao et al.

Summary: In this study, six aromatic units were selected from the liquid products of lignin depolymerization to prepare diversified O-rich hyper-cross-linked polymers (HCPs) via a one-pot Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction for CO2 and iodine vapor capture. The results showed that the morphology and textural parameters of HCPs were significantly affected by the chemical position and quantities of substituent groups from lignin-derived units, which in turn influenced their CO2 and iodine vapor uptake capabilities.

Facile synthesis of nitrogen and sulfur co-doped hollow microsphere polymers from benzothiazole containing wastewater for water treatment

Linbi Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel method that combines persulfate and wet air oxidation to recover organics from high concentration wastewater, achieving high mineralization of residual organics and COD removal rate higher than 90% in simulated BTH wastewater. The recovered nitrogen and sulfur co-doped hollow spherical polymers can be further carbonized into co-doped hollow carbon microspheres, showing superior performance in removing organic contaminants compared to commercial activated carbon, thus providing a new strategy for resource recovery in wastewater with high concentration of heterocyclic compounds.

The fabrication of porous hollow polysulfone microspheres with PEG as a porogen for methylene blue adsorption

Shangying Zhang et al.

Summary: Porous hollow polysulfone microspheres were prepared using PEG as a porogen, with the molecular weights of PEG influencing the morphology and porous structure of the microspheres. The study showed that higher Mw of PEG led to increased viscosity and larger microsphere size with reduced porosity. The PHPSF microspheres demonstrated higher separation efficiency and reusability compared to original PSF microspheres, indicating potential for water organic pollution treatment.

Recovery and separation of Mo(VI) and Re(VII) from Mo-Re bearing solution by gallic acid-modified cellulose microspheres

Manman Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, gallic acid-functionalized microcrystalline cellulose microspheres (MCGA) were synthesized and found to effectively separate Mo(VI) and Re(VII) with higher adsorption capacity and affinity towards Mo(VI). The dynamic column experiment showed selective recovery of Mo(VI) by MCGA, and different eluents can achieve stepwise elution of Mo(VI) and Re(VII. Additionally, the excellent adsorption properties of MCGA make it a potential candidate for separating Mo(VI) and Re(VII) from Mo-Re bearing solution.
