Foliar exposure of zinc oxide nanoparticles improved the growth of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and decreased cadmium concentration in grains under simultaneous Cd and water deficient stress

Muhammad Adrees et al.

Summary: The study showed that ZnO NPs can promote the growth of wheat, with the best results seen at 100 mg/L under normal moisture conditions. In grains, the Cd concentrations decreased by 26%, 81%, and 87% when using 25, 50, and 100 mg/L NPs, respectively, under normal moisture conditions, and decreased by 35%, 66%, and 81% under water deficit conditions.

Comparative physiological and metabolomic analyses revealed that foliar spraying with zinc oxide and silica nanoparticles modulates metabolite profiles in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)

Sen Li et al.

Summary: The study found that foliar exposure to ZnO-NPs and SiO2-NPs improved cucumber plant growth and metabolism, including increased chlorophyll content and fresh/dry weight. Metabolomic analysis showed that both nanoparticles significantly altered the metabolome, especially in leaves.

Abiotic Stress and Reactive Oxygen Species: Generation, Signaling, and Defense Mechanisms

Swati Sachdev et al.

Summary: Climate change has devastating effects on plants, leading to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as byproducts of oxygen consumption. While excessive ROS can disrupt cellular homeostasis, moderate levels can activate growth and stress responses in plants, though the exact mechanisms are not fully understood. Advancements in modern techniques like molecular priming and crop modeling offer potential solutions for managing ROS levels in plants under stress.

Interaction Between Macro- and Micro-Nutrients in Plants

Suresh Kumar et al.

Summary: Nutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), zinc (Zn), and iron (Fe) are essential for the optimal growth, development, and productivity of plants. Plant responses to deficiencies of these nutrients are mainly studied separately, but there is limited research on the molecular basis of interactions among them. Recent advances have identified master regulators like phosphate starvation response 1 (PHR1) and light-responsive transcription factors involved in coordinating nutrient responses in plants. Understanding the interactions between macro- and micro-nutrients could help breeders improve nutrient use efficiency and crop yield/quality, especially in the face of changing climatic conditions.

Unravelling homeostasis effects of phosphorus and zinc nutrition by leaf photochemistry and metabolic adjustment in cotton plants

Elcio Ferreira Santos et al.

Summary: The uptake and physiological use of phosphorus (P) and zinc (Zn) in plants are interconnected and tightly controlled, but excessive supply can limit plant growth and reduce photosynthesis and antioxidant enzyme activity. Adequate supply can facilitate adaptation responses and improve growth and metabolic activity.

Effect of deficit irrigation on physiology, plant growth, and fruit yield of cucumber cultivars

Ved Parkash et al.

Summary: Increased water scarcity calls for water-conserving irrigation practices to maintain crop production, especially in water-limited areas. A two-year field study investigated the impact of deficit irrigation on cucumber physiology, growth, and yield. Results showed that a decrease in irrigation levels led to lower photosynthesis and yield, with Marketmore 76 cultivar performing better under reduced water availability. The study suggests that 80% ETc irrigation level and Poinsett 76 cultivar are suitable for cucumber production in the water-limited Southern High Plains of the United States.

Response Mechanism of Plants to Drought Stress

Xinyi Yang et al.

Summary: With global climate anomalies and the destruction of ecological balance, water scarcity has become a serious ecological problem, making drought a key constraint in agricultural development. This study examines the effects of drought stress on plant morphology and physiology, signal transduction pathways, and genes related to drought stress, providing valuable background knowledge for future agricultural and forestry breeding.
