Hydrogen sulfide mitigates cadmium induced toxicity in Brassica rapa by modulating physiochemical attributes, osmolyte metabolism and antioxidative machinery

Guihua Li et al.

Summary: This study elucidated the physiological and biochemical strategies by which sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) alleviated cadmium (Cd) toxicity in Brassica rapa, showing improved growth biomarkers and antioxidative system in Cd stressed plants treated with NaHS. The findings suggest that hydrogen sulfide (H2S) can enhance stress tolerance and mitigate Cd stress in plants by modulating growth and antioxidative pathways.

Underlying mechanisms responsible for restriction of uptake and translocation of heavy metals (metalloids) by selenium via root application in plants

RenWei Feng et al.

Summary: Selenium has been shown to be an essential element for humans and can reduce the uptake of heavy metals in plants by influencing antioxidant systems, photosynthesis, repair of damaged cell structures, and balancing essential elements in plant tissues. This review focuses on how selenium regulates the migration and transformation of heavy metals in the soil-plant system, presenting a hypothesis on why and how selenium reduces heavy metal uptake in plants. The review examines the influence of soil characteristics, plant root systems, selenium-HM interactions, arsenic competition, and gene expression regulation on heavy metal uptake, translocation, and sequestration in plants.

Can biostimulants be used tomitigate the effect of anthropogenic climate change on agriculture? It is time to respond

Daniele Del Buono

Summary: Anthropogenic climate change poses challenges to agricultural systems due to their vulnerability to extreme events. With a predicted global population increase in the near future, there will be heightened demand for food, raising concerns about natural resource usage and availability. Urgent implementation of sustainable measures is needed to improve crop yield and quality in the face of climate change.

Physiological, biochemical and transcriptional responses of Passiflora edulis Sims f. edulis under progressive drought stress

Paula Andrea Lozano-Montana et al.

Summary: Purple passion fruit plants respond to water deficit stress by preventing water loss through stomata closure, accumulation of proline and sugars, and promoting root growth, showing tolerance to water deficit. At the gene expression level, specific genes are activated in response to different levels of stress, suggesting an avoidance strategy where loss of water is evaded.

An insight into the role of silicon on retaliation to osmotic stress in finger millet (Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn)

Pankaj S. Mundada et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of silicon can improve the metabolic pathways of finger millet under osmotic stress, enhancing lipid biosynthesis and reducing membrane lipid damage. It also suggests that jasmonic acid mediates the regulation of osmotic stress through alterations in fatty acid metabolism.

Mechanisms Regulating the Dynamics of Photosynthesis Under Abiotic Stresses

Izhar Muhammad et al.

Summary: Photosynthesis is crucial for plant life but is often limited by unfavorable environmental conditions and biological processes, affecting efficiency and yield. Research on plant responses to abiotic stresses and light modulation of photosynthesis can improve crop productivity. Understanding regulatory elements and gene responses to stresses can aid in developing stress-tolerant plants with higher yields.

Biochar application modified growth and physiological parameters of Ocimum ciliatum L. and reduced human risk assessment under cadmium stress

Leila Mehdizadeh et al.

Summary: The study found that the application of biochar (BC) improved the morphological and biochemical characteristics of Ocimum ciliatum under cadmium (Cd) stress, reducing Cd concentration and human risk assessment. Therefore, the use of BC in contaminated soil helps reduce pollutants and mitigate the negative effects of Cd stress on plants.
