Boosting the Iodine Adsorption and Radioresistance of Th-UiO-66 MOFs via Aromatic Substitution

Zi-Jian Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the electron-donating amino group has a positive impact on the adsorption of iodine in both solution and vapor states, with the di-substituted Th-UiO-66-(NH2)2 showing excellent removal rate and uptake capacity for iodine. Additionally, the radiolytic stability of MOFs was investigated, leading to the discovery of Th-UiO-66-NH2 as one of the most radioresistant MOFs reported to date.

Template-Mediated Control over Polymorphism in the Vapor-Assisted Formation of Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework Powders and Films

Min Tu et al.

Summary: The use of a template vapor during the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks can control the formation of polymorphs, preventing their transformation into denser forms and resulting in ZIF phases with different structures and properties. Experimental methods were used to determine conditions for producing different types of ZIF phases, and their porosity was characterized through physical and spectroscopic studies.

Heterometallic Actinide-Containing Photoresponsive Metal-Organic Frameworks: Dynamic and Static Tuning of Electronic Properties

Corey R. Martin et al.

Summary: Acquiring fundamental knowledge of properties of actinide-based materials is crucial for addressing challenges in nuclear energy and waste sectors. In this study, a correlation between photophysics and electronics in actinide-containing metal-organic frameworks was established for the first time, allowing for dynamic modulation of electronic properties. The construction of a photochromic MOF-based field-effect transistor demonstrated the potential for light-induced changes in current, enabling the operation of a fail-safe indicator circuit.

Interpenetration Control in Thorium Metal-Organic Frameworks: Structural Complexity toward Iodine Adsorption

Yu Ju et al.

Summary: This research successfully controlled the interpenetrating structure of thorium-based MOFs using ligand steric modulation strategy, and synthesized several new Th-MOFs with distinct topologies. Two of these Th-MOFs (Th-SINAP-17 and Th-SINAP-20) exhibited the highest pore volumes among all thorium MOFs, while Th-SINAP-16 and Th-SINAP-21 represent the second rare examples of interpenetrated Th-MOFs reported to date.
