Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Recent trends and advances in the epidemiology, synergism, and delivery system of lycopene as an anti-cancer agent

Xunyu Song et al.

Summary: Dietary interventions with lycopene, a powerful natural antioxidant, have shown significant potential in preventing various cancers by mediating multiple molecular mechanisms. The synergistic interaction of lycopene with other nutrients and drugs is highlighted, along with the rising application of novel delivery systems for cancer prevention. Further research on the synergistic mechanism between lycopene and other substances is needed to improve its clinical application in cancer intervention.

Phytochemical profiling of Blumea laciniata (Roxb.) DC. and its phytopharmaceutical potential against diabetic, obesity, and Alzheimer's

A. M. Swaraz et al.

Summary: Blumea laciniata is a medicinal herb from the Asteraceae family in South and Southeast Asia, with potential phytopharmaceutical properties against diabetes, obesity, and Alzheimer's. Its various organs contain a range of phenolic and flavonoid compounds, exhibiting strong antioxidant activity and inhibition against enzymes, particularly alpha-amylase, alpha-glucosidase, and lipase. Additionally, extracts significantly reduced blood glucose levels in diabetic mice without acute toxicity, suggesting its potential as a candidate for developing new phytopharmaceuticals and bioactive ingredients.
