Niosome-encapsulated tobramycin reduced antibiotic resistance and enhanced antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant clinical strains ofPseudomonas aeruginosa

Mojtaba Hedayati Ch et al.

Summary: In this study, niosome-encapsulated tobramycin based on Span 60 and Tween 60 was synthesized and its biological efficacies including anti-bacterial, anti-efflux, and anti-biofilm activities were investigated against multidrug resistant (MDR) clinical strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The results showed that the encapsulated tobramycin exhibited enhanced antibacterial activity and reduced antibiotic resistance in comparison to free tobramycin, making it a promising drug delivery system with low cytotoxicity against HEK293 cells.

Chitosan decoration improves the rapid and long-term antibacterial activities of cinnamaldehyde-loaded liposomes

Xingwei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, cinnamaldehyde-loaded liposomes decorated with varying concentrations of chitosan were found to exhibit improved encapsulation efficiency and storage stability. The chitosan decoration at certain concentrations showed significant antibacterial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus, with a cumulative and synergistic bacteriostatic effect of chitosan and cinnamaldehyde causing cell death. The results suggest potential for the development and application of natural preservatives with rapid and long-term bacteriostatic effects.

Streptomycin Sulfate-Loaded Niosomes Enables Increased Antimicrobial and Anti-Biofilm Activities

Maryam Mansouri et al.

Summary: Niosomes containing streptomycin sulfate were prepared and optimized based on size, polydispersity index, and encapsulation efficiency. The optimized formulation showed a minimum size, low PDI, and maximum EE% values. The drug release investigation indicated a gradual release of streptomycin sulfate from the niosomes over time, with higher antimicrobial activities against bacteria and minimal cytotoxicity against human cell lines.
