Structure adjustment for enhancing the water permeability and separation selectivity of the thin film composite nanofiltration membrane based on a dendritic hyperbranched polymer

Xiao Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a dendritic amphiphilic hyperbranched polyester acyl chloride (HPE-COCl) was proposed for incorporation into polyamide skin layer to adjust the structure and separation performance of thin film composite (TFC) nanofiltration (NF) membranes. The modified membranes showed enhanced water permeability and selectivity towards salts, heavy metals, and dyes. The experimental results suggested that HPE-COCl facilitated water permeation and improved selectivity by retaining larger-sized heavy metal salts and dyes.

MXene Nanosheet Templated Nanofiltration Membranes toward Ultrahigh Water Transport

Daliang Xu et al.

Summary: By utilizing a classical interfacial polymerization reaction on a two-dimensional lamellar layer of transition-metal carbides (MXene), a high-performance TFC nanofiltration membrane was successfully fabricated. The MXene layer aided in the absorption of reactive monomers, resulting in a thinner outer polyamide film and preventing the formation of polyamide in the substrate pores. This research presents a feasible strategy for producing high-performance nanofiltration membranes using two-dimensional nanosheets as templated interfaces.
