Enhanced Piezocatalytic Activity of Sr0.5Ba0.5Nb2O6 Nanostructures by Engineering Surface Oxygen Vacancies and Self-Generated Heterojunctions

Jian Dai et al.

Summary: A simple one-step hydrogen reduction route was used to fabricate Sr0.5Ba0.5Nb2O6 nanorods with surface defects and heterojunctions, which exhibited excellent piezocatalytic activity under ultrasonic vibration. The Sr0.5Ba0.5Nb2O6/Sr2Nb2O7 nanocomposites with controllable oxygen vacancies showed significant enhancements in both rhodamine B degradation and water-splitting efficiency compared to pristine Sr0.5Ba0.5Nb2O6 nanorods.

Insight into the piezo-photo coupling effect of PbTiO3/CdS composites for piezo-photocatalytic hydrogen production

Xueyan Huang et al.

Summary: The study focused on the potential of the alternating piezoelectric field induced by periodic stress to enhance the performance of PbTiO3/CdS heterojunction complexes in H-2 production. Results showed that the introduction of alternating piezoelectric potential significantly increased the H-2 production rate, outperforming individual piezo-catalysis and photocatalysis. Finite element simulation further demonstrated the superior piezoelectric potential difference in the PbTiO3/CdS heterostructure compared to pure PbTiO3 or pure CdS.

In-situ utilization of piezo-generated hydrogen peroxide for efficient p-chlorophenol degradation by Fe loading bismuth vanadate

Yan Wei et al.

Summary: Piezocatalysis using Fe-loaded bismuth vanadate (Fe/BVO) as a catalyst has been shown to be effective in generating and utilizing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in situ, achieving 86% p-CP degradation with enhanced efficiency compared to traditional bismuth vanadate piezocatalysis. The increased charge carrier density and improved activity for H2O2 production and activation in the Fe/BVO system provide new insights for the design of piezocatalysts for environmental applications.

Marigold shaped mesoporous composites Bi2S3/Ni(OH)2 with n-n heterojunction for high efficiency photocatalytic hydrogen production from water decomposition

Ye Liu et al.

Summary: The three-dimensional nano-flower structure of Ni(OH)(2) enhances photocatalytic activity by exposing more active sites, while the addition of Bi2S3 significantly increases hydrogen production efficiency of the composite catalysts. This is achieved by forming a n-n heterogeneous junction to reduce recombination rate of electrons and holes, and improve the photocatalytic split of water under visible light irradiation.
