The occurrence of PFAS in human placenta and their binding abilities to human serum albumin and organic anion transporter 4

Yao Lu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence of both legacy and emerging PFAS in human placenta, revealing different concentrations and detection frequencies of various PFAS. Molecular docking calculations showed that the binding affinities of PFAS with proteins are correlated with chain length, indicating a close relationship between placental transfer of PFAS and chain length.

Ionic liquids as environmental hazards - Crucial data in view of future PBT and PMT assessment

Dorota Kowalska et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids have gained attention for their unique properties and potential as designer solvents, but concerns about their toxicity and persistence have been raised. The increasing production and import of ILs over 10 tonnes per year require PBT and PMT assessments to evaluate their environmental impact.

Cumulative impact assessment of hazardous ionic liquids towards aquatic species using risk assessment methods

Muhammad Ishaq Khan et al.

Summary: This research work developed a comprehensive tool for assessing the cumulative ecotoxicological impact of ionic liquids (ILs) on aquatic life. The study evaluated the impact of different ILs on various aquatic species and determined the acceptable concentrations and risk values. Results indicated that certain imidazolium ILs had lower risk values and were more suitable for selected aquatic species.

New insights on the effects of ionic liquid structural changes at the gene expression level: Molecular mechanisms of toxicity in Daphnia magna

Guilherme Jeremias et al.

Summary: The molecular effects of ionic liquids on organisms were investigated, with different ILs showing varying levels of toxicity at the transcriptional level, suggesting the importance of alkyl chain length in determining toxicity. Despite its argued biological compatibility, cholinium chloride was found to possess environmental hazardous potential.

Reproductive toxicities of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide on Caenorhabditis elegans with oscillation between inhibition and stimulation over generations

Wanyan Yue et al.

Summary: Ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C(2)mim]Br) had concentration-dependent oscillation effects on the reproduction of C. elegans, showing alternating stimulation and inhibition on both initial and total reproduction over generations. This study also revealed potential mechanisms involving spermatocyte protein 8 (SPE8), major sperm protein (MSP), glucolipid metabolism, and histone methylation.
