High efficiency heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst biochar modified CuFeO2 for the degradation of tetracycline: Economical synthesis, catalytic performance and mechanism

Shuaishuai Xin et al.

Summary: The CuFeO2/BC catalyst showed higher catalytic activity for tetracycline degradation due to better particle dispersion and larger surface area, with optimal conditions being CuFeO2/BC-1.0, H2O2 concentration of 57.63 mM, and pH 6.27. Through experiments, it was demonstrated that CuFeO2/BC-1.0 has excellent reusability and stability.

Exposure to environmental neurotoxic substances and neurodevelopment in children from Latin America and the Caribbean

Jose G. Dorea

Summary: Exposure to neurotoxic substances poses a significant threat to children's neurodevelopment in Latin American and Caribbean countries, especially impacting children from laboring families. Studies indicate that prenatal exposure has more lasting effects than exposure through human milk, underscoring the urgent need to reduce neurotoxicant exposure to protect children's neurodevelopment.

New insights into virus yellows distribution in Europe and effects of beet yellows virus, beet mild yellowing virus, and beet chlorosis virus on sugar beet yield following field inoculation

Roxana Hossain et al.

Summary: The study revealed that beet yellows virus is widely spread in northern Europe, while beet mild yellowing virus and beet chlorosis virus are more frequently detected in the northern and western regions. Beet mosaic virus was only sporadically detected. The viruses showed rapid plant-to-plant spread and significant yield reduction, highlighting the importance of screening sugar beet genotypes for virus tolerance/resistance and testing insecticides for aphid control in a post-neonicotinoid era.

Cumulative exposure assessment of neonicotinoids and an investigation into their intake-related factors in young children in Japan

Naoko Oya et al.

Summary: This study investigated the exposure levels and sources of neonicotinoids (NEO) in young Japanese children, finding that food intake had a significant impact on exposure levels, while the use of mosquito coils and insect repellents was associated with increased urinary NEO levels. Mothers who were concerned about their child's nutritional balance were able to reduce the risk of exposure to NEOs.

Preparation and electrochemical treatment application of Ti/Sb-SnO2- Eu&rGO electrode in the degradation of clothianidin wastewater

Dan Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the electrochemical degradation of clothianidin in aqueous solution using a Ti/Sb-SnO2 electrode co-doped with graphene and europium. The Ti/Sb-SnO2-Eu&rGO electrode showed the highest efficiency and removal rate among the electrodes tested. Factors such as initial pH, electrolyte concentration, and current density were found to influence the degradation process. The study provides insights into the possible degradation pathway and offers a new method for clothianidin wastewater pollution control.

Exposure to perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) but not perflurorooctanoic acid (PFOA) at ppb concentration induces chronic toxicity in Daphnia carinata

Panneerselvan Logeshwaran et al.

Summary: This study found that PFOS exhibited higher toxicity than PFOA in aquatic ecosystems, with chronic exposure leading to significant mortality and reproductive defects in Daphnia even at lower concentrations. Genotoxicity assessment revealed that exposure to PFOS significantly damaged the organism's genetic makeup even at concentrations as low as 1 and 10.0 mg L-1.

Yan Tao et al.

Summary: From 2018 to 2020, 206 pairs of wheat and soil samples were collected from wheat fields in Beijing, China, showing various pesticide residues, with carbendazim and tebuconazole being highly detected in wheat samples. Soil samples frequently contained carbendazim, triazoles, and neonicotinoids, and pesticides exceeding maximum residue limits do not pose non-carcinogenic risks to human health, except for one.
