Comparison of the interfacial reactions and properties between Ag/Ti3AlC2 and Ag/Ti3SiC2 electrical contact materials

DanDan Wang et al.

Summary: Ag/Ti3AlC2 and Ag/Ti3SiC2 composites are promising for electrical contact applications, but their arc erosion resistance can be further improved by understanding the influence of MAX phases' structural stability on their properties. This study investigates the preparation, physical properties, interfacial reactions, and arc erosion resistances of these composites. Results show that the interfacial reaction between Ag and Ti3AlC2 significantly impacts their properties, while the weaker interfacial reaction in Ag/Ti3SiC2 leads to lower resistivity and hardness but superior arc erosion resistance.
