Activation of peroxymonosulfate by single-atom Fe-g-C3N4 catalysts for high efficiency degradation of tetracycline via nonradical pathways: Role of high-valent iron-oxo species and Fe-Nx sites

Xiaoming Peng et al.

Summary: A Fenton-like catalyst was prepared using isolated Fe single-atom and Fe clusters anchored onto a g-C3N4 framework for the heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade tetracycline (TC). The single Fe atoms served as active sites with optimal binding energy for PMS activation, leading to the production of high-valent iron-oxo species and single oxygen-dominated nonradical processes causing TC degradation. This study demonstrates the superior catalytic activity of single Fe atoms compared to Fe clusters in the activation of PMS for TC degradation.

In situ photodeposition of metalloid Ni2P co-catalyst on Mn0.5Cd0.5S for enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution with visible light

Xinwei Jiang et al.

Summary: By utilizing a simple in situ photodeposition strategy, Ni2P/Mn0.5Cd0.5S photocatalytic composites were constructed, leading to significantly improved H-2 production in the visible-light region. Optical and photoelectrochemical measurements suggested a possible mechanism where the close interface between metalloid Ni2P and Mn0.5Cd0.5S facilitated charge carrier transfer and separation, promoting the reduction of H+ to H-2.

Van der Waals heterojunction for selective visible-light-driven photocatalytic CO2 reduction

Jun Li et al.

Summary: In this study, atomically thin carbon nitride (CN) coupled with Bi9O2.5S6 (BOS) nanoplates to form a 2D/2D Van der Waals heterojunction for CO2 photocatalytic reduction, achieving a high CO generation rate. The 2D/2D VDW heterojunction can adsorb CO* more strongly on BOS than CN, leading to hydrogenation before desorption and explaining the product selectivity.

0D?-Ni(OH)2 nanoparticles/1D Mn0.3Cd0.7S nanorods with rich S vacancies for improved photocatalytic H2 production

Jingwen Zhang et al.

Summary: Engineering semiconductor materials with vacancies and co-catalysts is an effective method to enhance their photocatalytic performance. In this study, Mn0.3Cd0.7S nanorods modified with S vacancies and ?-Ni(OH)2 nanoparticles exhibited excellent visible-light H2-production activity, attributed to enhanced transfer/separation of photogenerated carriers and increased reaction sites. These findings propose a new approach for utilizing metal hydroxide co-catalysts and vacancies in sulfide materials for photocatalytic H2 production.

Highly efficient photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants by mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride bonded with cyano groups

Maliheh Razavi-Esfali et al.

Summary: Constructing a high-performance visible-light responsive photocatalyst for remediation of organic pollutants from wastewater has been a significant challenge in recent years. In this study, mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride nano-clusters (NC MCN) were fabricated as a high-activity photocatalyst using SiO2 clusters as a template. The NC MCN photocatalyst showed enhanced light-harvesting efficiency and suppressed electron-hole recombination due to the introduction of structural defects, leading to high catalytic activity and stability in degrading organic pollutants under visible light irradiation.

Haifei Wang et al.

Summary: The novel surface grafting strategy followed by in situ carbonization treatment can effectively improve the photocatalytic performance of carbon-modified g-C3N4, resulting in CMCN with enhanced visible light activity. The introduced carbon intimately connects with g-C3N4 to improve charge transfer kinetics and capture photoexcited electrons by forming a new intermediate state. The experimental results also demonstrate the practicality of CMCN material for producing high value-added benzaldehyde.
