Comparative study of arsenic removal by iron-based nanomaterials: Potential candidates for field applications

Tonoy K. Das et al.

Summary: The study compared graphene oxide supported magnetite (GM) and graphene oxide supported nanoscale zero-valent iron (GNZVI) nanohybrids for arsenic removal and found GNZVI to be more efficient across a wider pH range compared to GM. GNZVI also demonstrated better aqueous dispersibility and higher efficiency for arsenic removal compared to GM.

Kinetics and mechanism of arsenic removal using sulfide-modified nanoscale zerovalent iron

Payel Singh et al.

Summary: Sulphur modified nano zerovalent iron (S?nZVI) has shown high efficiency in removing inorganic arsenic from water, especially under acidic conditions. The addition of FeS on the surface of nZVI can significantly alter the sequestration mechanism of arsenic, leading to enhanced removal efficiency in contaminated water.

Selective removal of arsenic in water: A critical review

Lakshika Weerasundara et al.

Summary: Selective removal of arsenic is essential for increasing efficiency and reducing waste in water treatment. Various methods have been developed, but challenges remain due to the complex nature of different arsenic species and the presence of phosphate in water. Further research, including on microbiological methods, shows promise for future improvements in selective arsenic removal.

Mechanical activation of zero-valent iron (ZVI) in the presence of CaCO3: Improved reactivity of ZVI for enhancing As(III) removal from water

Tingting Zhang et al.

Summary: Grinding microscale iron powder with calcium carbonate can enhance the removal efficiency of As(III) from water. The modified ZVI/CaCO3 shows excellent removal performance and good regeneration property. The presence of CaCO3 facilitates the corrosion of ZVI and the formation of Fe(II) and H2O2 to significantly enhance As(III) removal.

Pristine and iron-engineered animal- and plant-derived biochars enhanced bacterial abundance and immobilized arsenic and lead in a contaminated soil

He Pan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that iron-engineered biochars were more effective in immobilizing arsenic, while original animal- and plant-derived biochars were better at immobilizing lead in soil. Biochar amendments increased bacterial abundance in soil, potentially alleviating the bio-toxicity of arsenic and lead to soil bacteria.

Synergistic role of bulk carbon and iron minerals inherent in the sludge-derived biochar for As(V) immobilization

Yulu Yu et al.

Summary: Biochar derived from different types of sludge with varying iron content and species showed different sorption capacities for As(V), with SSA biochar demonstrating superior abilities due to the presence of amorphous iron. The interaction between iron minerals and bulk carbon in biochar played a synergistic role in enhancing As(V) removal efficiency, highlighting the importance of understanding the role of iron species and their interaction with other components in biochar for sorption processes.
