A Nonoxide Catalyst System Study: Alkali Metal-Promoted Pt/AC Catalyst for Formaldehyde Oxidation at Ambient Temperature

Chunying Wang et al.

Summary: Metal oxides are commonly used as supports in noble metal-based catalysts for formaldehyde oxidation, but this study demonstrates the successful application of activated carbon, a nonoxide support, for Pt catalysts in HCHO oxidation. The addition of alkali metal Na enhances the stability of Pt species, increases Pt dispersion, and improves the activation of chemisorbed oxygen and water, leading to direct conversion of HCHO to CO2 and H2O on the Na-Pt/AC-R catalyst. This research extends the promotional effect of alkali metals on supported Pt catalysts to a nonoxide carrier system.

Partial positively charged Pt in Pt/MgAl2O4 for enhanced dehydrogenation activity

Yongxiao Tuo et al.

Summary: Platinum group metals show high potential for dehydrogenation of liquid organic hydrogen carriers, but the strong adsorption of dehydrogenation product has hindered catalyst performance. Strong interactions between Pt and MgAl2O4 result in partial positively charged Pt, reducing naphthalene adsorption and enhancing decalin dehydrogenation activity. This study reveals a new approach to construct highly efficient metal catalysts for LOHCs.

Single-Atom Materials: Small Structures Determine Macroproperties

Jiarui Yang et al.

Summary: Single-atom materials (SAMs) have been widely studied in various fields, and their high performance is largely attributed to the microstructure inside the SAM. Achieving the goal of regulating structures and understanding the relationship between macroproperties and small structures are essential but require further efforts in this field. This review comprehensively summarizes and discusses the regulation on microstructures, the characterization of microstructures, and the relationship between macroproperties and small structures, mainly focusing on the application of SAM in catalysts. Proposed challenges and future developments aim to provide an overall view and guidance for future research in this area.
