Understanding how pore surface fluorination influences light hydrocarbon separation in metal-organic frameworks

Xue-Qian Wu et al.

Summary: This study established a contrastive model by structurally modifying Cu(II)-MOFs constructed from isonicotinic acid and its fluorinated analogue, aiming to control pore surface fluorination for light hydrocarbon separation. The fluorinated MOFs showed enhanced selectivity without increasing regeneration energy consumption, highlighting the influence of pore surface fluorination on light hydrocarbon adsorption/separation properties and promoting the rational design of new adsorbents at the atom level.

Heteroatom-doped porous carbons exhibit superior CO2 capture and CO2/N2 selectivity: Understanding the contribution of functional groups and pore structure

Xiancheng Ma et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that oxygen and nitrogen-doped porous carbon materials have a significant influence on CO2 adsorption and CO2/N-2 selectivity; the contributions of pore structure and functional groups are roughly 62% and 38% respectively; nitrogen and oxygen-doped porous carbons enhance the electrostatic interactions between the carbon surface and CO2 molecules, affecting CO2/N-2 selectivity.

Biomass-based hierarchical porous carbon with ultrahigh surface area for super-efficient adsorption and separation of acetone and methanol

Xiancheng Ma et al.

Summary: This study developed a new method for synthesizing biomass-based hierarchical porous carbons with high surface area and adsorption capacity for acetone and methanol. The adsorption amount at high pressure is mainly determined by the total pore volume, while at low pressure, oxygen groups provide adsorption sites. Additionally, narrow micropores determine the acetone/methanol selectivity, with no effect from oxygen groups.
