Advanced interpretation of CO2 adsorption thermodynamics onto porous solids by statistical physics formalism

Sarra Wjihi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the CO2 adsorption from simulated flue-gas using three different activated carbons. It shows that micropore volume affects the adsorption capacity, while chemical properties play a secondary role. Advanced models derived from statistical physics are used to interpret the adsorption isotherms and provide insights into the adsorption mechanisms.

Starch, cellulose, pectin, gum, alginate, chitin and chitosan derived (nano) materials for sustainable water treatment: A review

Mahmoud Nasrollahzadeh et al.

Summary: Natural biopolymers, such as cellulose, chitin/chitosan, and starch, are considered greener, sustainable, and eco-friendly materials due to their outstanding structural features, abundant availability, nontoxicity, and biocompatibility. In recent years, polysaccharides have been widely used for making various catalysts, with polysaccharides-supported metal/metal oxide materials being an effective strategy in nanotechnology. Polysaccharides adorned with nanomaterials have shown promising potential as efficient catalysts or sorbents in removing a variety of aqueous pollutants and contaminants.

Binder-free 3D printing of covalent organic framework (COF) monoliths for CO2 adsorption

Ximeng Liu et al.

Summary: COFs are typically synthesized in powder form, but the addition of binders can increase costs and decrease surface area of active materials, posing challenges for maintaining surface functionality. Binders-free 3D printing technology for COFs can produce crack-free monoliths with larger surface area and improved sorption selectivity.

Integrate nanoscale assembly and plasmonic resonance to enhance photoluminescence of cellulose nanocrystals for optical information hiding and reading

Shuyu Zheng et al.

Summary: Assembling cellulose nanocrystals can induce photonic emission, but often suffers from low emission quantum yield. By controlling the assembly of CNC in nanoscale metal-organic frameworks, the emission quantum yield can be significantly increased, especially when carbon nanodots are incorporated.

All-cellulose functional membranes for water treatment: Adsorption of metal ions and catalytic decolorization of dyes

Dimitrios Georgouvelas et al.

Summary: A simple method for manufacturing all-cellulose layered membranes with high adsorption and catalytic properties for metal ions and organic dyes has been developed in this study, with a significant increase in hydrogenation efficiency for dyes achieved in the presence of membranes compared to NaBH4 alone. The membranes show great potential for water purification systems due to their water-based processing, abundance of component materials, and multifunctional characteristics.

Charged ultrafiltration membranes based on TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibrils/poly(vinyl alcohol) antifouling coating

Andrea Aguilar-Sanchez et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibrils (T-CNF)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) coatings to develop functionalized membranes with outstanding antifouling performance and stability in the ultrafiltration regime. The coated membranes showed nano-textured surface, altered surface charge, and improved mechanical properties compared to the original substrate. Additionally, the coated membranes exhibited charge specific adsorption and rejection driven by electrostatic interaction and size exclusion mechanisms, leading to reduced fouling when exposed to BSA and E. coli.
