Modulating electronic structure of honeycomb-like Ni2P/Ni12P5 heterostructure with phosphorus vacancies for highly efficient lithium-oxygen batteries

Zhiqun Ran et al.

Summary: A honeycomb-like Ni2P/Ni12P5 heterostructure with abundant phosphorus vacancies was developed as an effective and stable electrode for lithium-oxygen batteries, showing potential for high performance electrocatalysts. The vacancies induce electron delocalization and optimize the adsorption of oxygenated intermediates, leading to low overpotential, ultra-high discharge capacity, and remarkable durability in the battery system.

Interface Engineering of CoS/CoO@N-Doped Graphene Nanocomposite for High-Performance Rechargeable Zn-Air Batteries

Yuhui Tian et al.

Summary: The interface engineering of heterogeneous CoS/CoO nanocrystals and N-doped graphene composite results in enhanced electrocatalytic performances for oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction. Optimizing the composition, interface structure, and conductivity of the electrocatalyst leads to bifunctional catalytic activity with outstanding efficiency and stability for both ORR and OER. The aqueous ZAB with the bifunctional electrocatalyst displays high power density, specific capacity, and cycling stability, making it promising for flexible and wearable electronic devices.

Interface engineering of Co3Fe7-Fe3C heterostructure as an efficient oxygen reduction reaction electrocatalyst for aluminum-air batteries

Min Jiang et al.

Summary: Aluminum-air batteries, with their high theoretical energy densities, low cost, and eco-friendliness, are potential candidates for next-generation energy storage and conversion systems. Rational design of efficient catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction in neutral and alkaline solutions is crucial for the performance of these batteries. A new interface engineering strategy has been proposed to create a Co3Fe7-Fe3C heterostructure with abundant interfaces anchored on 3D honeycomb-like N-doped carbon, leading to remarkable catalytic activity and stability towards ORR. This work demonstrates a novel approach to designing multifunctional catalysts with interfacial structures for high-performance metal-air batteries.

Engineering Crystallinity and Oxygen Vacancies of Co(II) Oxide Nanosheets for High Performance and Robust Rechargeable Zn-Air Batteries

Yuhui Tian et al.

Summary: This study combines comprehensive characterizations and density functional theory calculations to investigate the roles of crystallinity and oxygen vacancy levels in Co(II) oxide on ORR and OER activities. The conversion of Co(OH)(2) into oxygen-defective amorphous-crystalline CoO nanosheets with controlled crystallinity and oxygen vacancy levels leads to significantly enhanced electrocatalytic activities. The introduction of amorphous structures and oxygen vacancies in the ODAC-CoO material proves to be an effective strategy for achieving high-performance electrocatalytic ORR and OER processes.

High-valent bimetal Ni3S2/Co3S4 induced by Cu doping for bifunctional electrocatalytic water splitting

Hui Su et al.

Summary: Novel bimetallic sulfide electrocatalysts with excellent HER and OER activity have been synthesized, outperforming most reported bifunctional metal sulfides. This is attributed to the introduction of Cu cation promoting the formation of high-valent Ni/Co sites, which enhances the intrinsic catalytic activity by modulating the d-band center of Co and reducing the adsorption energy of intermediates.
