Numerical investigation of turbulent CuO-water nanofluid inside heat exchanger enhanced with double V-cut twisted tapes

M. E. Nakhchi et al.

Summary: The turbulent characteristics and thermal enhancement of CuO-water nanofluids through heat exchangers with double V-cut twisted tapes were investigated numerically. The results showed that the modified twisted tapes with cuts led to strong turbulent kinetic energy and additional vortex flow, improving fluid mixing and heat transfer. A significant enhancement in heat transfer efficiency of about 14.5% was observed for the nanofluid with a volume fraction of phi=1.5%, reaching a maximum thermal performance of eta=1.99 at Re=5000.

Analysis of unsteady mixed convection of Cu-water nanofluid in an oscillatory, lid-driven enclosure using lattice Boltzmann method

Mostafa Valizadeh Ardalan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the unsteady physics of laminar mixed convection in a lid-driven enclosure filled with Cu-water nanofluid. It finds that implementing a temporally sinusoidal velocity on the top wall reduces the required power while decreasing wall oscillation frequency increases heat transfer rate. Additionally, lowering Richardson number and increasing volume fraction of nanoparticles enhance heat transfer rate.

A machine learning approach to the prediction of transport and thermodynamic processes in multiphysics systems-heat transfer in a hybrid nanofluid flow in porous media

Rasool Alizadeh et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel approach based on machine learning techniques for predicting transport behaviors of complex multiphysics systems, resulting in significant reductions in computational time and cost. The study focuses on a hybrid nanofluid flow over a blunt object in porous media, including mixed convection, entropy generation, local thermal non-equilibrium, and nonlinear thermal radiation. The SVR model is used to approximate various functions, while the PSO meta-heuristic algorithm is applied for proposing correlations, allowing for quantitative evaluation of variables' contributions.

Mojtaba Moravej et al.

Summary: The experimental study evaluated a fixed three-dimensional solar collector with a hemispherical geometry according to ASHRAE standards. Results showed that the collector exhibited promising thermal performance due to its geometry and pipe arrangement, making it a viable option for domestic and industrial deployment. Switching from water to Ag-water nanofluid led to an average efficiency increase of around 11%, with the highest efficiency of 61.1% achieved at a nanoparticle concentration of 0.3% and a flow rate of 0.6 GPM.

Role of gradients and vortexes on suitable location of discrete heat sources on a sinusoidal-wall microchannel

Liang Cheng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of using graphene nanoplatelets/water inside a sinusoidal microchannel on heat transfer and pressure drop, finding that installing heating sources in regions with high-temperature gradients has a more significant positive impact on heat exchange. The best layout (B) showed a 37.5% increase in heat exchange compared to the base layout (A), but the pressure drop and entropy generation increased by 79% and 35.2%, respectively. By introducing a new figure of merit (FOM), layout B was found to be in the desirable zone.
