Binary logic operations with artificial molecular machines

Federico Nicoli et al.

Summary: Living systems rely on ions and molecules for information processing and motion control. Artificial mimics of biomolecular systems have been developed, and their combination can produce logic-controlled nanomachines with great potential for applications. These systems may lead to the development of 'molecular robots' capable of executing specific functions based on environmental stimuli.

Dynamic covalent self-assembly of mechanically interlocked molecules solely made from peptides

Hendrik Schroeder et al.

Summary: The synthesis strategy of mechanically interlocked peptides (MIPs) solely made from peptides was reported in this study. These MIPs were self-assembled in water, breaking the tradition of MIMs usually being prepared in organic solvents. Detailed NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry characterization revealed that MIPs exhibit rich conformational dynamics reminiscent of protein folding.

Supramolecular hydrogelation via host-guest anion recognition: Lamellar hydrogel materials for the release of cationic cargo

Zoran Kokan et al.

Summary: This study presents a hydrogel system based on the bambus[6]uril anion receptor, which can selectively form hydrogels in the presence of specific ions. The gelation mechanism and network structure were elucidated through various methods, and it was found that slow drug release can be achieved in physiological saline solutions.

Carbonyl Hypoiodites as Extremely Strong Halogen Bond Donors

Shilin Yu et al.

Summary: Neutral halogen-bonded O-I-N complexes were prepared using carbonyl hypoiodites and aromatic organic bases. Modulating the Lewis basicity led to halogen-bonded complexes where the O-I...N bond transforms more into an asymmetric ion pair. X-ray analyses and NMR studies confirmed the geometries of the complexes.

Diastereoselective synthesis of [1]rotaxanes via an active metal template strategy

Noel Pairault et al.

Summary: This study presents the first diastereoselective synthesis of mechanically planar chiral [1]rotaxanes using the active template Cu-mediated alkyne-azide cycloaddition reaction. This synthetic method allows for the preparation of a variety of mechanically planar chiral [1]rotaxanes, paving the way for the study of their properties and potential applications.
