A common iridium(iii) complex was used to easily prepare ultrafine Ir nanoclusters embedded in porous N-doped carbon. The resulting material exhibited significant bifunctional activity for both hydrogen evolution and hydrazine oxidation under alkaline conditions, enabling energy-efficient hydrogen production.
