A simple strategy of combining pillar[5]arene (P5) and MXene was used to prepare functional two-dimensional materials. The resulting MXene-P5 showed high supramolecular recognition, enrichment capability, and electrochemical response towards dye molecules, possibly due to the synergistic effects of high conductivity, high surface area, and host-guest recognition. This study provides a promising prospect for an electrochemical sensing platform based on different types of pillararenes.
