On the kinetics of the co-methanation of CO and CO2 on a co-precipitated Ni-Al catalyst

Thomas Burger et al.

Summary: The study developed a kinetic model to describe the competitive adsorption mechanism of CO and CO2 in the methanation reaction, and the influence of the decomposition of the hydrogenated COHy intermediate on the reaction rate.

Generating digital twins of mesoporous silica by graph-based stochastic microstructure modeling

Benedikt Prifling et al.

Summary: Silica monoliths are versatile materials widely used in analytical separation science, their functionality depending on the 3D morphology of their macropore and mesopore spaces. This study considers three differently manufactured silica monolith samples, presenting a parametric stochastic 3D microstructure model capable of generating digital twins of the resulting mesopore spaces. The model theoretically guarantees complete connectivity of both the silica phase and mesopores, fitted to electron tomographic image data and validated for various microstructure characteristics and effective diffusivity.

Summary: This paper focuses on the textural characterization of nanoporous materials, particularly hierarchically ordered materials like mesoporous zeolites. Understanding pore architectures is crucial for improving industrial applications, but reliably characterizing complex pore structures remains a challenge.

On the support dependency of the CO2 methanation - decoupling size and support effects

Jan Ilsemann et al.

Summary: The influence of support basicity on Ru-catalyzed CO2 methanation was investigated, with different types of basic surface sites on the support playing a significant role in catalytic behavior. Basic supports can contribute to catalytic turnover by opening new pathways or promoting existing ones, depending on the type, density, and strength of basic sites available, which varies with temperature.
