In this article, a chameleon cryptosystem based on a chameleon chaotic system and dynamic DNA coding is proposed for image encryption. The chosen chaotic sequences are tightly connected to disrupt the pixel image distribution. To enhance security, confusion and diffusion operations are closely related to the chaotic sequences. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed cryptosystem performs well against various attacks.
In this article, a chameleon cryptosystem, based not only on the properties of a chameleon chaotic system but also on the dynamic DNA coding is proposed. The chaotic chameleon system is studied as a whole to choose the chaotic sequence of each type of system. It emerges from this dynamic that, the chaotic system can produce self-excited attractors and three families of hidden attractors (no equilibrium, sta-ble equilibrium, and line equilibrium). The proposed technique is used for image encryption and applies dynamic DNA coding (i.e. over all stages) to disrupt the pixel image distribution and tie it tightly to the chosen chaotic sequences. To further improve the security of the proposed chameleon cryptosystem, the confusion and diffusion operations are closely related to the chaotic sequences generated by the chaotic chameleon system. The experimental results and the security analysis have shown that the proposed chameleon cryptosystem has good performance and can withstand various typical and classical attacks.(c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd.
