Interfacial reactions and microstructure related properties of explosively welded tantalum and steel sheets with copper interlayer

H. Paul et al.

Summary: This paper presents a comprehensive study of the microstructure-property relationships in Ta and stainless or carbon steel composites fabricated by explosive welding using Cu interlayer. The study reveals complex microstructures in interfacial layers, phase transformation mechanisms in reaction regions, and competition between strain-hardening and softening processes in parent sheets. The micro hardness values of the welded sheets increased as the joining interface approached, except for the layers directly adhering to large reaction regions, where a decrease in micro-hardness was observed.

Effect of Bonding Temperature on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of 304L/Zircaloy-4 Diffusion-Bonded Joints with Ni/Ta Hybrid Interlayer

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a solid-state diffusion bonding of stainless steel 304 L and zircaloy-4 was conducted using Ni and Ta as a hybrid interlayer at 850-1000 degrees C under 6 MPa pressure in vacuum. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints were investigated. The results showed the formation of Ni3Ta intermetallic compounds and a solid solution of Zr and Ta at different interfaces, with a maximum shear strength of 194 MPa and a hardness value of 356 HV in the Ni3Ta layer.

Microstructural and mechanical properties of CFC composite/Ti6Al4V joints brazed with Ag-Cu-Ti and refractory metal foils

Yuhang Kang et al.

Summary: Brazing of carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite (CFC)/Ti6Al4V alloy with Ag-Cu-Ti braze and Nb (or W) foil achieves satisfactory bonding at the interfaces. The use of refractory metal foils increases the shear strengths of joints and helps to alleviate thermal mismatch issues, with Nb foil inhibiting micro-crack propagation and brittle-phase formation, while W foil adjusts stress distribution and reduces stress concentration in joints.

Study of Ag precipitation and mechanical properties of Ti-Ta-Ag ternary alloy

Jun-Min Zhang et al.

Summary: The Ti-25Ta-xAg alloy can form a stable ternary alloy system with Ag precipitation at the grain boundary. Through first-principles calculations, it was found that the critical temperature for Ag precipitation in the Ti-Ta-Ag alloy is around 2200 K. Additionally, changes in lattice constants and mechanical properties occur when the Ag solid solubility reaches x=0.8, due to a shift in the electronic states of Ag. These findings offer theoretical guidance for the application of Ti-Ta-Ag ternary alloys in biomedicine.
