Color removal from model dye effluent using PVA-GA hydrogel beads

Prarabdh Jain et al.

Summary: A low cost polyvinyl alcohol-glutaraldehyde cross-linked hydrogel beads were successfully used for color removal from model industrial effluent containing Congo Red dye, achieving a high adsorption capacity and showing good reusability. Adsorption analysis revealed a multi-layer adsorption and pseudo second order kinetics, with fixed bed experiments best explained by the Thomas mathematical model. The studies demonstrated that external and internal mass diffusion were no longer rate limiting factors in the experiments.

Summary: Polymer additives designed using emulsion polymerization can improve the performance of magnesium phosphate cements, increasing elastic behavior and toughness. The additives reduce the apparent porosity, promote phosphate crystallization, and retard the reaction.

Amorphous-crystalline transformation control on the microstructural evolution of magnesium phosphate cements

Summary: Magnesium phosphate cements undergo a transformation from amorphous to crystalline during hardening, leading to an increase in porosity. However, the interlocked lath shaped microstructure provides a beneficial effect which outweighs the detrimental role of increased porosity, resulting in an increase in mechanical strength.
