Crystal-chirality-dependent control of magnetic domains in a time-reversal-broken antiferromagnet

Kenta Kimura et al.

Summary: Chiral-lattice magnets can exhibit various physical phenomena when time-reversal symmetry is broken by their magnetism, even in antiferromagnets without magnetization. An unconventional coupling between chirality and magnetic quadrupoles was observed in a chiral-lattice antiferromagnet, mediated by previously unrecognized magnetic octupoles emerging from chirality.

Permutable SOS (symmetry operational similarity)

Sang-Wook Cheong et al.

Summary: This paper classifies quasi-one-dimensional objects into eight different types based on symmetry considerations, discussing their symmetry operational similarity relationships. It also examines recent experimental observations and predicts a number of new phenomena in low symmetry materials based on symmetry operational similarity.

Magnetic-field-induced ferroelectric states in centrosymmetric R2BaCuO5 (R = Dy and Ho)

Premakumar Yanda et al.

Summary: The study reveals the occurrence of a linear magnetoelectric effect and field-induced ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity below T-N(R) in orthorhombic green phases R2BaCuO5 (R = Dy and Ho). The compounds exhibit a first-order magnetic transition enabling linear magnetoelectric coupling, followed by metamagnetic transitions above a critical field. The important role of 4f-3d coupling in determining the ground state magnetic structure responsible for the magnetoelectric coupling is discussed.

Probing magnetic symmetry in antiferromagnetic Fe4Nb2O9 single crystals by linear magnetoelectric tensor

Jing Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated magnetodielectric, magnetoelectric, and angular-dependent polarization in single-crystal Fe4Nb2O9. Significant magnetodielectric effects were observed around T-N at approximately 95 K when magnetic fields were applied along three orthogonal directions. The experimental results indicate the presence of a linear ME tensor with all nine nonzero components, demonstrating a lower magnetic point group for the canted antiferromagnetic configuration.
