Production of sustainable smart packaging based on cassava starch and anthocyanin by an extrusion process

Thais M. A. R. D. Vedove et al.

Summary: This study utilized cassava starch and a natural pH indicator to produce sustainable smart packaging through a twin-screw extrusion process. The research found that thermoplastic starch sheets incorporated with 20 mg ATH/100 g showed the best behavior as a smart packing indicator for meat storage, with higher variation of Delta E* and most visually notable color change.

Hydrothermal and mechanically generated hemp hurd nanofibers for sustainable barrier coatings/films

Preeti Tyagi et al.

Summary: This study utilized residual hemp hurd fibers to produce lignocellulosic nanofibers, which showed superior water barrier properties compared to films made from bleached cellulose nanofibers. The barrier properties were found to be influenced by lignin content, distribution, film density, and porous structure. LCNF films derived from hemp hurd fibers have the potential to contribute to a circular economy and sustainability.
