Evaluation of machine learning models for predicting the temporal variations of dust storm index in arid regions of Iran

Zohre Ebrahimi-Khusfi et al.

Summary: This study successfully predicted the seasonal dust storm index (DSI) in arid regions of Iran during 2000-2018 using nine machine learning models and their averaging method, with the averaging method outperforming individual models in all seasons. The most important factors for predicting DSI were found to be seasonal wind speeds, vegetation index, and maximum wind speeds.

Summary: The study compared Cubist and bagging-PLSR models using multi-depth data for predicting soil properties, showing that bagging-PLSR performed better in independent validation. Furthermore, depth-specific calibrations also demonstrated good prediction agreement in this study.
