Evaluation and variation trends analysis of water quality in response to water regime changes in a typical river-connected lake (Dongting Lake), China

Mingming Geng et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the water quality trend of Dongting Lake in China from 1991 to 2018 using the Mann-Kendall test and self-organising map. The results indicated a deterioration in water quality, particularly after the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. The concentrations of TN and BOD5 increased significantly, and the water quality classification showed a higher ecological risk in Dongting Lake.

Factors controlling Carex brevicuspis leaf litter decomposition and its contribution to surface soil organic carbon pool at different water levels

Lianlian Zhu et al.

Summary: The study shows that water levels in wetlands have a significant impact on litter decomposition and organic carbon release, with higher water levels facilitating the release of carbon from plant litter into the soil to form a carbon pool, while lower water levels can lead to carbon loss.
