Colorful superhydrophobic concrete coating

Kun Xu et al.

Summary: The colorful and robust superhydrophobic concrete (CSC) coating has a water contact angle of 158 +/- 0.5 degrees and a sliding angle of 5 +/- 0.8 degrees. It is composed of cement, sand, water-based stone protector, and dyes for concrete coloring. Its high robustness comes from the high adhesive force between the coating and the substrate, the inherent high hardness of concrete itself, and self-similarity of inside micro-structures. The CSC coating also exhibits excellent chemical durability and weather resistance.

Colorful superhydrophobic materials with durability and chemical stability based on kaolin

Mengnan Qu et al.

Summary: A one-step method to fabricate colorful superhydrophobic coatings was reported in this study by combining kaolin, acrylic color, and organosiloxanes, demonstrating excellent durability, chemical stability, and high-efficiency in oil-water separation with outstanding fungi-resistance. The coatings showed superhydrophobicity in air, remained water-repellent even after exposure to UV or harsh conditions, and can be applied in various fields such as house decoration, paint coating, antimicrobial material, and oil/water separation.
