A MOF-based Ultra-Strong Acetylene Nano-trap for Highly Efficient C2H2/CO2 Separation

Zheng Niu et al.

Summary: A new type of ultra-strong C2H2 nano-trap has been proposed, which efficiently captures C2H2 molecules and separates C2H2/CO2 mixture based on multiple binding interactions. The nano-trap exhibits high C2H2 uptake, selectivity, and the locations of C2H2 molecules within it have been visualized by in situ single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, identifying multiple binding sites responsible for the strong interactions with C2H2.

Highly Specific Coordination-Driven Self-Assembly of 2D Heterometallic Metal-Organic Frameworks with Unprecedented Johnson-type (J51) Nonanuclear Zr-Oxocarboxylate Clusters

Wei Gong et al.

Summary: The search for new and unique polynuclear metal-oxocarboxylate clusters has led to the creation of highly connected and robust metal-organic frameworks with intriguing properties. In this study, two 2D heterometallic MOFs incorporating unprecedented Johnson-type nonanuclear Zr-oxocarboxylate clusters were successfully prepared through a specific coordination-driven cluster rearrangement process. One of the resulting frameworks shows promising potential for acetylene purification, while the other demonstrates remarkable iodine capture capacity.

Tuning the gating energy barrier of metal-organic framework for molecular sieving

Xue-Wen Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that gating action can be used for molecular sieving and gas separation. By adding amino groups to the metal-organic framework, the gating energy barrier is increased, enhancing the selectivity of CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4. Different pressures for pore opening induced by C2 and C3 hydrocarbons allow for molecular sieving of C2H4/C2H6 and C3H6/C3H8.

Host-Guest Interaction Modulation in Porous Coordination Polymers for Inverse Selective CO2/C2H2 Separation

Yifan Gu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of controlling gas sorption through simple pore modification for molecular recognition and industrial separation processes, and presents a strategy for enhancing CO2/C2H2 selectivity by designing channel pores to increase CO2 adsorption while suppressing C2H2 adsorption. The newly synthesized ultramicroporous PCPs show high CO2 uptake and CO2/C2H2 volume uptake ratio, with breakthrough separation performances and remarkable stability for C2H2 purification from CO2/C2H2 mixtures.

Selective Gas Uptake and Rotational Dynamics in a (3,24)-Connected Metal-Organic Framework Material

William J. F. Trenholme et al.

Summary: The desolvated metal-organic framework material MFM-160a shows excellent high-pressure uptake of CO2 and selective separation of C2 hydrocarbons from CH4, with experimental results consistent with theoretical predictions. Solid-state H-2 NMR spectroscopic studies reveal a low barrier and slow rotation rate of the phenyl group in the activated MOF, and the rotation rate increases with gas pressure due to weakening of an intramolecular hydrogen bond.

Development of Functional Materials via Polymer Encapsulation into Metal-Organic Frameworks

Nobuhiko Hosono et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) composed of metal ions and organic ligands have versatile porous structures with controllable sizes and designable surface functionalities. Encapsulating polymer chains into MOF pores disrupts the natural coiling of polymer chains and provides a platform for studying the properties of single polymer chains. The formation of nanocomposites between MOFs and polymers can accomplish several nanoscale functions, while the use of regulated nanochannels in MOFs for polymer encapsulation allows for the separation of polymers based on marginal structural differences.
