Development of a heat stress exposure metric-Impact of intensity and duration of exposure to heat on physiological thermal regulation

Mahsan Sadeghi et al.

Summary: An innovative bioclimatic metric based on the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) was developed to quantify human thermal physiological heat stress, and applied to the Sydney Australia climatology. The study found that weather systems driving westerly winds from the Australian continent's central deserts brought the highest heat stress exposure to Sydney's inland western suburbs, while coastal eastern Sydney experienced lower heat stress exposure values due to moderating influences of sea breezes and evaporative cooling.

Evaluation of the ERA5 reanalysis-based Universal Thermal Climate Index on mortality data in Europe

Ales Urban et al.

Summary: This study examines the potential of the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) based on ERA5 as a health-related tool, analyzing the relationship between thermal conditions and mortality in 21 European cities. The findings suggest that ERA5-based UTCI may be a useful tool for defining life-threatening thermal conditions, especially in locations where high-quality station data are not available.

Temporal Analysis of Urban-Suburban PET, mPET and UTCI Indices in Belgrade (Serbia)

Milica Pecelj et al.

Summary: The study shows that there is higher biothermal stress in the urban area of Belgrade compared to the suburban zone, especially during the summer. However, comparing these indices becomes more difficult during the winter due to their distinct characteristics becoming more noticeable.

Strategies and scenarios to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emission in the urban, rural and sustainable neighbourhoods

Modeste Kameni Nematchoua et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of the building sector on carbon emissions and energy consumption, proposing emission reduction strategies for different types of neighbourhoods. Results show that modernizing urban and rural areas through building renovations and solar panel installations can effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while smart choices in construction materials and green energy production offer targeted opportunities to address future climate issues.
