Test rooms to study human comfort in buildings: A review of controlled experiments and facilities

Summary: Recent research has shown a growing interest in studying occupants' comfort perception in test rooms, particularly in non-thermal sensory domains and multi-domain studies about occupant's whole comfort. Test room designs are becoming more realistic, but there are still shortcomings such as underrepresentation of some continents and climate zones. This research aims to guide improvements in the design or audit of test room experimental facilities.

Predicting thermal pleasure experienced in dynamic environments from simulated cutaneous thermoreceptor activity

Summary: This study demonstrates that activity of sensory neurons can predict thermal pleasure under dynamic exposures. By using a numerical model of cutaneous thermoreceptors and skin temperature measurements, the researchers were able to classify pleasure responses with relatively high accuracy. This provides insights into the neurophysiology of thermal perception and its relationship to pleasure, which could enhance the design of environments to promote sensory excitation.
