Hourly evolution of intra-urban temperature variability across the local climate zones. The case of Madrid

Miguel Nunez-Peiro et al.

Summary: Field measurement campaigns have seen exponential growth in recent years due to the need for reliable data to validate urban climate models and understand urban climate features better. Researchers are still investigating the potential of LCZs and its indicators for urban temperature variability detection, with results suggesting room for improvement.

Exploration of the thermal behaviour and energy balance of urban canyons in relation to their geometrical and constructive properties

Fazia Ali-Toudert

Summary: This extensive study utilized the TEB model to explore the relationships between urban thermal environment and countryside, as well as the urban energy balance. It was found that urban canyon geometry and building construction have significant effects on urban air temperatures and energy balances, with different building types leading to varying heat effects and warming patterns.

Effect of urban built form and density on building energy performance in temperate climates

Ehsan Ahmadian et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationships between urban built form, density, and building energy performance using density indicators of site coverage and plot ratio. Results show that high-rise buildings with greater plan depths achieve higher energy efficiency, and greater cut-off angles correspond to higher energy demands under temperate climatic conditions. Introducing an energy indicator termed Energy Equity, the study suggests that low-rise buildings with greater plan depths provide improved energy performance when considering energy demand and PV energy generation simultaneously.

Thermal impact of street canyon microclimate on building energy needs using TRNSYS: A case study of the city of Tangier in Morocco

Adnane M'Saouri El Bat et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of integrating urban microclimate to predict building energy needs, showing that buildings in street canyons absorb more radiation and have higher surface temperatures than standalone buildings, resulting in increased cooling energy needs in summer and reduced heating energy needs in winter.
