NHS Health Checks: an observational study of equity and outcomes 2009-2017

John Robson et al.

Summary: The NHS Health Check programme has been running for 10 years, with low uptake rates and attendees more likely to be diagnosed with conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Attendees were also more likely to receive treatment, such as statins and antihypertensive medicines, but the majority did not receive any treatment or referral. Less than 10% of those eligible for statins were actually prescribed them, indicating a need for targeted strategies for those at highest risk of cardiovascular disease.
