Accounting for variation in and overuse of antibiotics among humans

Martin J. Blaser et al.

Summary: Research indicates that global antibiotic use is increasing, but many infections are not bacterial and oversight is lacking with over-the-counter and internet sales. Solutions to improve antibiotic stewardship include greater physician responsibility for prescribing, shifting the role of caregivers to diagnosticians, improving communication with patients about treatment consequences, reducing economic influences, and identifying antibiotic alternatives.

Rising incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer - a call to action

Naohiko Akimoto et al.

Summary: The global incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer is on the rise, potentially due to factors such as diet, obesity, lack of exercise, and antibiotic use. Early-onset CRC differs clinically, pathologically, and molecularly from later-onset CRC. Further research spanning childhood and young adulthood is necessary to enhance understanding and management of this disease.

A Comprehensive Comparison of Early-Onset and Average-Onset Colorectal Cancers

Andrea Cercek et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with early-onset colorectal cancer are more likely to have left-sided tumors, present with rectal bleeding and abdominal pain, but are otherwise clinically and genomically indistinguishable from average-onset colorectal cancer. Aggressive treatment regimens based solely on the age at colorectal cancer diagnosis are not warranted.
