Physiologic and molecular characterization of a novel murine model of metastatic head and neck cancer cachexia

Brennan Olson et al.

Summary: Cancer cachexia is a metabolic disorder characterized by progressive loss of fat and lean mass, leading to wasting and increased mortality. Existing pre-clinical models often fail to fully replicate the features of cachexia, but a newly characterized metastatic model of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma shows promising results in mimicking key clinical and molecular features of cancer cachexia.

Neoadjuvant nivolumab for patients with resectable HPV-positive and HPV-negative squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck in the CheckMate 358 trial

Robert L. Ferris et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of neoadjuvant anti-PD-1 therapy in high-risk resectable HPV-positive and HPV-negative HNSCC, showing that neoadjuvant nivolumab therapy was generally safe and induced pathologic regressions in HPV-positive (23.5%) and HPV-negative (5.9%) tumors.

Sex disparities matter in cancer development and therapy

Sue Haupt et al.

Summary: Genetic sex plays a significant role in cancer development and treatment responses, and including genetic sex considerations in cancer treatments can lead to improved outcomes. It is important to consider sex chromosomes and gender differences in cancer risk when providing standard care for patients.
