Summary: This study investigated the enrichment of microbial consortia on hydrolysate of untreated pre-treated agricultural and forestry straw to develop new strategies for lignocellulose utilization. The selected microbial consortia demonstrated resistance to inhibitors in the hydrolysates and the ability to utilize xylose, resulting in the development of a new process for the production of lactic acid through batch simultaneous saccharification and fermentation. The microbial consortium showed suitability for lactic acid production from sulfuric acid-pretreated corn stover due to its thermophilic growth characteristics and robust tolerance of inhibitors.
