Osmolality Effects on CHO Cell Growth, Cell Volume, Antibody Productivity and Glycosylation

Sakhr Alhuthali et al.

Summary: The addition of NaCl for osmolality modulation had a consistently positive effect on specific antibody productivity and titre, while the supplementation of a commercial feed resulted in variable effects and compromised cell growth rate at high osmolality values. Feed C addition to 410 mOsm kg(-1) was the only condition that achieved a significantly higher mAb titre compared to the control. These results demonstrate the importance of osmolality control in CHO cell culture for optimizing antibody production.

Bioprocess digital twins of mammalian cell culture for advanced biomanufacturing

Seo-Young Park et al.

Summary: Today's biomanufacturing processes are still largely based on experience, but there is a growing interest in utilizing digital twins (DT) to enhance operational efficiency. By incorporating in-line monitoring, data analytics, and mechanistic models, bioprocess DT of cell cultures can virtually mirror behaviors under adjustable process conditions. This review highlights recent advances in bioprocess DT components and discusses current challenges and future research directions.
