Pinpointing secondary metabolites that shape the composition and function of the plant microbiome

Richard P. Jacoby et al.

Summary: Plants use a variety of secondary metabolites to influence the composition and function of the microbiome, which can be enhanced through targeted methods to improve beneficial microbial traits and enhance agricultural sustainability.

Flavonoids and saponins in plant rhizospheres: roles, dynamics, and the potential for agriculture

Akifumi Sugiyama

Summary: Plants interact with a variety of soil microorganisms in the rhizosphere using plant-specialized metabolites (PSMs), which play a crucial role in shaping and modulating the microbiota. However, the secretion mechanisms of PSMs in the rhizosphere remain unclear, requiring further investigation.

Enhancement of developmentally regulated daidzein secretion from soybean roots in field conditions as compared with hydroponic culture

Miwako Toyofuku et al.

Summary: Analyses of metabolite secretions by field-grown plants are limited. In the study, daidzein secretion by field-grown soybean was found to be up to 10,000 times higher than hydroponically grown soybean, with higher secretion during early vegetative stages compared to reproductive stages. This leads to a more accurate simulation of rhizosphere daidzein content under field conditions.
