Volatile fatty acids production from waste activated sludge during anaerobic fermentation: The effect of superfine sand

Xiupeng Jiang et al.

Summary: The presence of superfine sand in waste activated sludge was found to positively impact VFAs production, mainly by promoting acetic acid generation and increasing the abundance and activity of anaerobic functional microorganisms.

Effects of substrate types on the transformation of heavy metal speciation and bioavailability in an anaerobic digestion system

Xiarong Zheng et al.

Summary: Chemical speciation plays a crucial role in determining the potential toxicity and bioavailability of heavy metals. The study revealed that the anaerobic digestion process had a greater impact on the speciation of heavy metals in pig manure and chicken manure, while the effect was less significant in cattle manure and rice straw. The changes in bioavailability followed the order of pig manure > chicken manure > cattle manure > rice straw.

Inhibition of tetracycline on anaerobic digestion of swine wastewater

Yiwei Liu et al.

Summary: The continuous addition of 8 mg/L tetracycline significantly reduced methane production and upset the anaerobic digestion process. Among the four anaerobic digestion steps, methanogenesis was particularly inhibited, with enzyme activities decreasing by 66%. Exposure to tetracycline increased polysaccharide contents in EPS, inhibiting direct connections among microorganisms.

Novel insights of impacts of solid content on high solid anaerobic digestion of cow manure: Kinetics and microbial community dynamics

Muhammad Abid et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that high solid anaerobic digestion of cow manure can achieve a stable gas production process under appropriate conditions. As the solid content increases, the gas production rate decreases, but can still be maintained at a relatively high level. The abundances of relevant microbial communities also increase accordingly.
