Influence mechanism of C/N ratio on heterotrophic nitrification- aerobic denitrification process

Xin Gu et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing the C/N ratio can enhance the HNAD performance of Acinetobacter junii ZHG-1, but the effect diminishes when the C/N ratio exceeds 30. Therefore, more research efforts should focus on the influence mechanism of different environmental factors on the HNAD process.

Role of extracellular polymeric substances and enhanced performance for biological removal of carbonaceous organic matters and ammonia from wastewater with high salinity and low nutrient concentrations

Wenchang Tang et al.

Summary: In simulated mariculture wastewater, EPS was found to enhance the removal efficiency of carbonaceous organic matters and ammonia nitrogen, as well as the activity of dehydrogenases and amylase. However, EPS did not accelerate the reactions of key enzymes such as acetate kinase, leading to a decrease in ATP energy gaining and cytotoxicity. Additionally, EPS could promote glycolysis efficiency and tyrosine was identified as the main component to balance osmotic pressure.

Application of magnetic fields to wastewater treatment and its mechanisms: A review

Yilin Wang et al.

Summary: This review discussed the application of magnetic field in wastewater treatment and critically elaborated the mechanisms of magnetic field-enhanced wastewater treatment from the perspective of magnetic physicochemical and biological effects. The focus was on summarizing the application of magnetic field in magnetic adsorption-separation of heavy metals and dyes, treatment of domestic wastewater, and photo-magnetic coupling technology.

The protective role of PHB and its degradation products against stress situations in bacteria

Marcelo Mueller-Santos et al.

Summary: Many bacteria produce storage biopolymers under conditions of metabolic adaptation, with polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) being the most common type. PHB functions as a mobilizable carbon repository for bacteria facing carbon limitation, but recent findings suggest it can also provide protection against cellular damage under stress conditions. This indicates a potential environmental monitoring mechanism connected to PHB metabolism in bacteria.
