Artificial M2 macrophages for disease-modifying osteoarthritis therapeutics

Yandong Ma et al.

Summary: The artificial M2 macrophages with yolk-shell structure were proposed and fabricated to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of M2 macrophages in the treatment of osteoarthritis. The nanogel as yolk achieved burst release to down-regulate inflammation during acute flares and sustainable release to repair cartilage during low inflammatory activity. This fabrication provided a new insight on breaking the vicious cycle of osteoarthritis.

Bacterium-mimicking sequentially targeted therapeutic nanocomplexes based on O-carboxymethyl chitosan and their cooperative therapy by dual-modality light manipulation

Jie Zhou et al.

Summary: A study has successfully developed sequentially targeted therapeutic nanocomplexes that can overcome challenges in the tumor microenvironment, achieving nuclear translocation of DNA through receptor-mediated endocytosis and enhancing gene expression while inducing apoptosis in tumor cells through the integration of gene and photodynamic therapy. These bacterium-mimicking STNPs show promising potential as a candidate for tumor treatments.
