Human osteoclast formation and resorptive function on biomineralized collagen

A bone-targeted engineered exosome platform delivering siRNA to treat osteoporosis

The results show that the materials selected through this platform can induce osteoinduction in hiMSCs and modulate macrophage phenotype, providing a materials-induced alternative to osteo-inductive supplements in bone-regeneration.

Summary: The study showed that 3D printed titanium scaffolds coated with hydroxyapatite can enhance the therapeutic efficacy of osteoblast-derived EVs. Triangle pore scaffolds significantly increased osteoblast mineralization and EV yield, demonstrating the potential for bone repair. Coating with bone-mimetic nano-needle hydroxyapatite further improved osteoblast mineralization and EV production, highlighting the importance of harnessing bone-mimetic culture platforms for regenerative medicine.

Expanding Biomaterial Surface Topographical Design Space through Natural Surface Reproduction

The TopoChip platform, despite its vast collection of in silico designed microtopographies, only scratches the surface of design possibilities due to limitations in design algorithms and surface engineering strategies. By replicating natural surfaces and utilizing machine-learning algorithms, researchers have demonstrated that natural surfaces can significantly expand the design space of the TopoChip, leading to distinct cellular responses and potential applications in improving osteogenesis. Future research will focus on training design algorithms using results from natural surface imprint experiments to further explore novel bioactive surface topographies.
