Cellulose-lignin composite fibres as precursors for carbon fibres. Part 1-Manufacturing and properties of precursor fibres

Mikaela Trogen et al.

Summary: Cellulose-lignin composite fibres were successfully spun from ionic liquid solutions with lignin concentrations of up to 50%. Comparing beech and spruce lignin, the higher stability and carbon content of spruce lignin resulted in higher carbon fiber yield. These composite fibres show great potential as precursors for carbon fiber production.

Understanding the influence of key parameters on the stabilisation of cellulose-lignin composite fibres

Nguyen-Duc Le et al.

Summary: The study explores the potential of composite fibre made from blended cellulose and lignin as a low-cost and sustainable alternative to carbon fibre. Further research is needed to develop production methods, while investigating stabilization processes and fibre properties can address related issues.
