Lateralized emotional functioning in domestic animals

Marcello Siniscalchi et al.

Summary: Studying emotional functioning is crucial for improving the welfare of domestic animals. Cognitive component of emotions, including lateralization in the animal kingdom, has been widely reported. Research on animal emotions through evaluation of cerebral lateralization is mainly based on analyzing lateralized behaviors associated with sensory and motor functions.

The Difficult Integration between Human and Animal Studies on Emotional Lateralization: A Perspective Article

Summary: Studies have shown that hemispheric asymmetries exist in various nonhuman species, particularly in emotional functions. While research on emotional lateralization in humans and animals has developed independently, there are similarities, such as the right lateralization of sympathetic functions in emergency situations.
