Provirus reactivation is impaired in HIV-1 infected individuals on treatment with dasatinib and antiretroviral therapy

Lorena Vigon et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of dasatinib on the viral reservoir of HIV-infected individuals on combination therapy with ART and dasatinib, finding that dasatinib significantly reduced the frequency of latently infected cells, decreased activation of proviruses, and lowered SAMHD1 phosphorylation levels and levels of homeostatic cytokines in peripheral blood.

Summary: The assessment of HIV-1 persistence is challenging, with most commercially available tests focusing on the measurement of nucleic acid. Despite their high sensitivity, these assays have limitations in evaluating translational competent viral reservoirs.
