A GH13 α-glucosidase from Weissella cibaria uncommonly acts on short-chain maltooligosaccharides

Karan Wangpaiboon et al.

Summary: The novel alpha-glucosidase from Weissella cibaria BBK-1 has been biochemically and structurally characterized in this study, showing specific hydrolytic activity on short-chain oligosaccharides and strong transglycosylation activity in the presence of maltose. Size-exclusion chromatography and X-ray crystal structures revealed that WcAG forms a homodimer with a unique structure, leading to its substrate preference.
